A Mom’s Guide to St. Louis Fall Festivals That Are Actually Kid-Friendly
Finding kid-friendly fall festivals in St. Louis takes a little strategy once you’ve got a toddler in tow — August means back-to-school chaos, but it also means fall festival season is right around the corner, and that part is worth getting excited about. Not every festival is created equal when little ones are along for the ride. Crowds, no shade, nothing for the kids to actually do — we’ve all been there.
Now with a toddler of my own, I did my research. I asked my Instagram community, mom friends, and past clients what their favorite kid-friendly fall festivals were, and a few names kept coming up over and over. Here’s what made the list.
Festival of Nations — Tower Grove Park, August 29 & 30
This one is a personal favorite, and I’m so excited to introduce my little guy to it this year. The Festival of Nations brings together different cultures, incredible food vendors, live performances, and an atmosphere that feels festive without being chaotic. It’s spread out enough to make wandering easy, with plenty of quiet corners in the park to sit down and enjoy whatever you’ve found along the way.
What to know:
- Free admission
- Tower Grove Park offers plenty of green space to spread out
- Go early with little ones — it fills in as the day goes on, and an early arrival makes parking and navigating so much easier
- Kicks off fall festival season right at the end of August
Greentree Festival — Kirkwood Park, September 18–20
The Greentree Festival came up more than any other when I asked around, and it’s easy to see why. Set in Kirkwood Park and rooted (no pun intended) in history, this year marks the 65th anniversary of an event that started as a way to preserve nature and build community. Arts and activities, kid-friendly crafts, food, live music, and community vendors fill the weekend, making it a true family event.
What to know:
- Free admission
- Kirkwood Park offers plenty of open space for little ones to move
- Kirkwood’s walkability makes it easy to build a whole day around the festival
- The Greentree Parade, typically Saturday morning, is a family favorite on its own
Fall Fest at Grant’s Farm — South St. Louis County, Weekends in October
This is the one that turns a Saturday errand list into an actual outing. Fall Fest brings the whole farm to life for the season — rich history, gorgeous scenery, and enough unforgettable experiences to fill a full day. Seasonal treats, themed photo spots, and kid-friendly activities are everywhere, including the Fall Fest Kids Zone and the Fall Fest Marketplace right at the Clydesdale pastures. And yes, the magnificent Budweiser Clydesdales are as much of a showstopper as ever.
What to know:
- Admission to Fall Fest is free
- A parking ticket is required if arriving by vehicle
- Parking lot entry closes 1 hour before the park closes, and tram rides through the Deer Park end 90 minutes before closing
- Fall Fest runs weekends in October — check grantsfarm.com closer to your visit for exact dates and hours
Worth the Drive: Apple Butter Festival — Kimmswick, October 24–25
The Kimmswick Apple Butter Festival is a short drive south, but it’s absolutely worth it. Kimmswick is a charming historic town about 30 minutes from St. Louis, and the Apple Butter Festival turns it into exactly the kind of fall experience you want to share with your kids. Apple butter made the old-fashioned way, fall treats, arts and crafts vendors, and a town built for a leisurely stroll — the sensory experience alone, the smells, the tastes, the whole vibe, is genuinely magical for little ones.
What to know:
- October 24–25, 10am to 5pm both days
- Small admission fee to enter Kimmswick during the festival
- The town itself is half the experience — historic, walkable, and full of little shops and restaurants worth exploring
- Plan to make a full day of it
