We’re heading west – to the west St. Louis County suburbs of Town and Country and Chesterfield.
Town and Country, Missouri, established in 1950, began as a picturesque suburb of St. Louis, originally known for its expansive estates and equestrian culture. Over the decades, the landscape has been developed but you will still find horse pastures and stunning estate homes. If you are looking for an upscale property of 1-3 acres, you will likely find it here – for a price. It is an affluent area with median list prices of homes typically at the $1.3 million mark.
Chesterfield, Missouri, officially incorporated in 1988, has roots dating back to the early 1800s with its origins as a collection of small farming communities. Today, it stands as a bustling suburban city known for its robust commercial centers, scenic parks, and thriving residential neighborhoods. Chesterfield has the longest outdoor strip mall in America, Chesterfield Commons. Many of the homes in the 63017 zip code were built in 1970s and 1980s, while homes farther west in the 63005 zip code tend to be larger, new construction homes that come at higher cost.
Town and Country, Missouri, exudes a serene and upscale suburban vibe, offering residents a blend of luxury and tranquility. The area is characterized by its sprawling estates, lush greenery, and well-maintained parks, providing a picturesque setting for families and individuals seeking a peaceful yet sophisticated lifestyle. With top-rated schools, exclusive dining options, and a strong sense of community, living in Town and Country means enjoying the best of suburban living with convenient access to the amenities and cultural attractions of nearby St. Louis.
The public school district for most of Town and Country is the Parkway C-2 School District. Other portions are in the Kirkwood R-VII School District and the Ladue School District.
Chesterfield, Missouri, presents a vibrant and dynamic suburban atmosphere that contrasts with the tranquil elegance of neighboring Town and Country. Known for its bustling shopping centers, the area offers a wide array of retail, dining, and entertainment options. Chesterfield’s neighborhoods blend modern developments with cozy residential areas, fostering a lively community spirit. The city’s numerous parks and recreational facilities, including the popular Faust Park and its Butterfly House, provide ample opportunities for outdoor activities. While Town and Country offers a more secluded and luxurious retreat, Chesterfield thrives on its energetic and accessible suburban lifestyle, making it an appealing choice for those who enjoy an active and engaging environment.
Rockwood School District serves the western portions of Chesterfield, and Parkway School District serves the east.
Faust Park, a serene oasis in Chesterfield, Missouri, is a beloved destination for nature lovers and families. The park boasts picturesque walking trails, inviting picnic areas, and well-equipped playgrounds. A highlight of Faust Park is the Butterfly House, a tropical conservatory home to hundreds of exotic butterflies, providing a magical experience for visitors of all ages. Another must-see attraction is the historic St. Louis Carousel, dating back to the 1920s, offering charming, nostalgic rides that delight children and adults alike.
Queeny Park is a sprawling 569-acre park that offers a wide range of recreational activities and natural beauty. With its scenic walking trails, picnic areas, lakes, dog park, ice rink, and well-maintained sports facilities, it’s a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The park is also home to the historic Jarville House and the Greensfelder Recreation Complex, which hosts various events and programs throughout the year. Whether you’re hiking, enjoying a family picnic, or participating in community events, Queeny Park provides a welcoming and versatile environment for all ages.
Central Park is a 55-acre park with playground, an aquatic center, hiking trails and the Chesterfield Amphitheater. This state-of-the-art outdoor amphitheater hosts a variety of performances throughout the year, from local bands to nationally recognized artists. With its beautiful setting and excellent acoustics, the Chesterfield Amphitheater provides an unforgettable experience for music lovers.
The City of Town and Country owns and maintains over 60 acres of parkland in four separate parks – Drace Park, Longview Farm Park, Preservation Park, and Town Square.
The District STL is anchored by the outlet mall housing numerous discounted high-end designer, home and specialty stores. The Hub STL is the center of The District and offers a fabulous outdoor space with pavilion, LED screen, and stage for performance. Flanked with multiple dining and drink options, it is a great place to gather and enjoy microbrews from 4 Hands Brewing Co. The District is also home to The Factory, which brings musical acts from all genres and comedians from across the country to Chesterfield.
In spring of 2023, the Chesterfield Sports Association opened a 97,000-square-foot facility that houses nine basketball courts that can convert into 18 volleyball courts. The Chesterfield Sports Complex expects to attract 900,000 visitors each year through tournaments. In July 2024 it was announced that a 325,000 square-foot indoor and outdoor AAA Hockey & Futbol facility will be built in Chesterfield. The $60 million complex will be one of the largest in the Midwest. Outside the complex, there will be three turf soccer fields, concessions, a dining patio, and a children’s playground. The design features large, clear-span structures that will allow for an open interior free of obstruction in the ice rink and soccer fields.
The first Top Golf in the area offers climate-controlled hitting bays for year-round comfort with HDTVs in every bay and throughout the sports bar and restaurant. It’s an excellent place for team building events, parties, or just an afternoon of fun.
One of the standout attractions in Chesterfield is Myseum, an interactive children’s museum designed to ignite the imagination and curiosity of young minds. This hands-on museum features a variety of exhibits that encourage children to explore, learn, and play. From a giant UFO maze to a magnetic ball wall, Myseum provides endless entertainment for kids of all ages. It’s an ideal destination for families looking to spend a fun-filled day together while fostering a love of learning in their children.
For food enthusiasts, a visit to Katie’s Pizza & Pasta Osteria is a must. Located in the heart of Town and Country, this restaurant offers an authentic taste of Italy with a modern twist. Katie’s Pizza is renowned for its hand-crafted, wood-fired pizzas, made using locally sourced ingredients and traditional techniques. The menu also features an array of delicious pasta dishes, salads, and appetizers that cater to various tastes and dietary preferences.
From the Napoli Group comes Napoli Bros. Pizza and Pasta, which opened in June 2024. The New Haven-style pizzas – baked in a coal-fired 600-degree oven for a charred crust – are the draw, but equally delicious are the pastas. This spot joins Napoli II, the contemporary, high-end bar and restaurant showcasing Italian seafood and meat dishes in Town and Country.
Renowned culinary institution, Annie Gunn’s has a rich history dating back to 1937. Originally a modest roadhouse serving hearty meals to farmers, it has evolved into a gourmet destination with a farm-to-table philosophy. Known for its smoked prime rib and lamb chops, Annie Gunn’s offers an inviting rustic ambiance. Adjacent to the restaurant is the Smokehouse Market, providing fine meats, cheeses, and wines. Deeply embedded in the community, Annie Gunn’s supports local initiatives, making it a cherished landmark in Chesterfield.
The chefs behind Cleaver & Cocktail, launched in 2021, strive to make most things in-house or source from local vendors. The focus is on dry-aged meats and classic cocktails. There are plenty of fish and vegetarian entrees as well. The large patio has a view of the onsite lake, making this place popular for happy hour, but you’ll want to stay for dinner.
Black Salt, which opened in 2023, is one of the newest Indian restaurants in an area with many choices like The Curry Club, Red Chili, and Taj Palace. Black Salt serves authentic tandoor classics along with fusion twists. Its elegant yet cozy ambiance, coupled with attentive service, creates a memorable dining experience for guests. Whether you’re a fan of classic favorites or looking to explore new flavors, Black Salt offers a delightful culinary journey through the diverse tastes of India.
