Old North Annual House and Community Tour
Every year in May, Old North St. Louis Restoration Group (ONSLRG) hosts a neighborhood-wide house and community tour to show off the warmth of the community, the richness and character of the architecture, the beauty of the community gardens and green spaces, and the dynamic revitalization in progress. This year the big day is scheduled for Saturday, May 11, 2019 from 10:00AM- 4:00PM and will include homes and two museums along historic St. Louis Avenue. In addition, VIP ticket holders can attend a Sneak Peek reception at the new Shipping Container home being built at Wright & N. 14th Streets in Old North.

About Old North
The Old North neighborhood is known for the landmark Crown Candy Kitchen, historic 19th century brick homes, and its award-winning community gardens. The partnership of ONSLRG and the Regional Housing & Community Development Alliance (RHCDA) on the 27 building, $35 million redevelopment of the former 14th Street pedestrian mall – known as Crown Square, has brought a mix of commercial and residential uses back to what was a large swath of abandoned and deteriorating buildings near the intersection of St. Louis Avenue and N. 14th Street. Arts organizations like Central Print and UrbArts have embraced the historic district of Crown Square, and artists, nonprofits, cafes, shops, restaurants are joining long-established businesses in calling Old North home. There is a strong sense of community here and you can feel it at the Farmers Market and other events held in the Square.

In addition to Crown Square, there are two other separate National Register Historic Districts located within the boundaries of Old North St. Louis — the portion of the neighborhood north of St. Louis Avenue, where dozens of homes have been rehabbed by individuals and families over the past 25 years and along North Market Street and one block to the south along Monroe Avenue, where new homes have been built and large, formerly crumbling historic buildings have been rehabbed as affordable apartments.
